Diabetes Management

Diabetes Care St. Petersburg, FLThe LifeHelp Nutrition and Diabetes Center education and guidance to patients on managing Type I, Type 2 and gestational diabetes. LifeHelp's certified diabetes educators conduct an in-depth assessment and develop an educational plan to meet your individual needs.

Diabetes Self-Management Program

Diabetes self-management training is critical for anyone newly diagnosed or already living with diabetes. Active participation is critical to prevent or avoid complications. LifeHelp's certified diabetes educators, registered nurses and registered dietitians conduct an individual assessment and develop an education plan to meet your needs. The LifeHelp program is recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and qualifies for Medicare reimbursement to train eligible beneficiaries in successful diabetes self-management. Beginning with an individual consultation, you will plan follow-up training sessions to cover all aspects of diabetes management.

  • Blood sugar monitoring and using results to improve control
  • Medications purpose, timing, effects
  • Prevention of complications
  • Basic nutrition
  • Meal planning
  • Carbohydrate counting
  • Exercise
  • Stress management
  • Motivation to use skills of self-management

The Group Educational Classes are offered at both our St. Anthony's Hospital and St. Anthony's Outpatient Center locations.  The classes meet once a month and there are 3 classes in the series. These class series can be taken in the morning or the afternoon. All-day classes are also available and are held on Saturdays. Call our office for schedule information or to enroll.  A physician referral is needed to comply with your insurance requirements.

Private consultations are also available for insulin instruction, blood glucose meter instruction, gestational diabetes or situations that would prevent you from succeeding in a group setting. Our diabetes education program is covered by most insurance plans. Authorizations are required for managed care plans.

Diabetes Support Group

Our free Diabetes Support Group meets the second Wednesday of every month from 2:30 to 3:30pm, with a variety of speakers and topics. For more information, call the LifeHelp Center at (727) 820-7910.

Diabetic Circulation Problems

People who have diabetes are vulnerable to nerve and vascular damage that can result in loss of protective sensation in the feet, poor circulation, and poor healing of foot ulcers. St. Anthony's Wound Healing Center can help treat and heal heard to heal wounds and foot ulcers to prevent further deterioration that may lead to amputation.
