St. Anthony's Breast Center Designated Breast Center of Excellence|
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (November 15, 2010) - The Susan Sheppard McGillicuddy Breast Center at St. Anthony's Hospital has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The designation signifies that the Susan Sheppard McGillicuddy Breast Center at St. Anthony's Hospital meets the highest standards of the radiology profession. A center of excellence designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that have demonstrated excellence in breast imaging by achieving accreditation in mammography, breast ultrasound and ultrasound-guided biopsy, and stereotactic breast biopsy. St. Anthony's breast center is the only breast center in south Pinellas County to receive this designation.
"The designation as an ACR Breast Imaging Center of Excellence is a testament to the quality of imaging performed by the St. Anthony's breast center," said Sonja Ancrile R.T. (R)(M), mammography coordinator for the breast center St. Anthony's. "This was truly a team effort, and we are very proud of this designation. It recognizes the quality of every aspect of the center. Our physicians and technologists are deemed to be highly qualified to perform and interpret breast images. Plus, our equipment has been designated as having met or exceeded all quality assurance and safety guidelines."
"Coordinated, comprehensive care designed around the needs of the patient is integral to what we do," said Claudia Bundschu M.D., radiologist and medical director of the breast center at St. Anthony's. "The breast center at St. Anthony's allows women to receive expert, compassionate care and advanced technology to screen, diagnose and treat women all at one facility."
The breast center at St. Anthony's is a multidisciplinary breast care program providing a full spectrum of clinical and support services, from screening and diagnosis to treatment and counseling. The state-of-the-art technology at the center is delivered by a talented team of specialized clinicians, a radiologist and a patient care navigator who work closely together to provide coordinated care - personalized to address the individual breast health needs and concerns of each patient.
The ACR, a national membership organization serving radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, and medical physicists, is recognized as a leader in accreditation of medical imaging and radiation oncology. St. Anthony's voluntarily underwent ACR's rigorous review process and was certified as meeting nationally accepted standards.
