St. Anthony’s Helps Runners Avoid Serious Injury

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (March 21, 2011) – A little ache never hurt anyone, right? If left untreated, those little aches can grow into big pains, especially for runners. St. Anthony’s sports medicine experts will offer tips on avoiding and preventing big injuries during “Runners: Am I Just Sore, or Am I Injured?” a free sports medicine lecture on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Outpatient Center (Carillon), meeting rooms A and B.

KoKo Eaton, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and a team physician for the Tampa Bay Rays, will discuss how runners can learn how to recognize and prevent common injuries, such as stress fractures, hamstring strains, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, and Achilles tendonitis. Dr. Eaton will be joined by Jennifer Cubito, a St. Anthony’s Physical Therapist, who will demonstrate special exercises to help runners train and prevent injury.
