Suncoast Medical Clinic and St. Anthony’s Healthcare Announce Partnership for Better Coordinated Care and Improved Quality
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 12, 2011 -- Suncoast Medical Clinic and St. Anthony’s Healthcare today announced a new affiliation to enhance patient care coordination and improve quality of care. Although St. Anthony’s and Suncoast have worked informally together for years, this affiliation creates a closer collaboration that offers patients seamless transition between different levels of care and services.
“We’ve always had a very patient-centered approach at Suncoast,” said Dr. Mark Gordon, president, Suncoast Medical Clinic and a practicing Urologist, “but patients want more coordination between outpatient and inpatient care so our goal is to provide it to them. When we approach patient care with an aligned vision, closer coordination, and an integrated process, patients will benefit from increased efficiency and improved quality.”
In the new model the majority of the current Suncoast physicians will be employed by an associated company of St. Anthony’s Healthcare, SC Physicians LLC. Additionally, there will be other physicians working on a contract basis.
Most of the physicians of Suncoast are already on the medical staff of St. Anthony’s Hospital, so the initial transition will be imperceptible to patients. St. Anthony’s EMR (electronic medical record) is linked to the entire BayCare system, so patient records will be available to the care team in any of Bay Care’s 10 hospitals, outpatient facilities or services such as imaging, lab, behavioral health and home health care.
St. Anthony’s Hospital president William Ulbricht agreed. “This partnership will increase value and reduce fragmentation in a manner that is in keeping with what patients want out of their health care and will help us continue our commitment to improving the health of the community.”
Suncoast will remain in its current location and expects to move to a new location on the St. Anthony’s campus in 2013. The planning and groundbreaking of that facility is anticipated to occur this year. For some of the Suncoast physicians, the move to the St. Anthony’s campus will be a homecoming. Suncoast Medical Clinic was born out of a 1997 merger of the county’s two largest multispecialty physician practices: Suncoast Medical Clinic and St. Petersburg Medical Clinic. St. Petersburg Medical Clinic was located on the St. Anthony’s campus at one time.
