This Summer, Let St. Anthony’s Help You Work Out Smarter, Not Harder|
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (June 27, 2011) – Don’t let vacations and summer celebrations come between you and your workout. Even in the summer months, you can work out smarter, not harder, and achieve your goals. To help you stay on the right track, St. Anthony’s sports medicine experts will share tips during “Work Out Smarter, Not Harder,” a free sports medicine lecture on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at 5:30 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Carillon Outpatient Center.
John Gross, MD, who is board-certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine, and Jay Downing, MS, ACSM-HFI, certified personal trainer, will be on hand to discuss the benefits of professional analysis and how performance testing can help you reach your goals. Dr. Gross, who is a competitive triathlete, will be able to address questions about training goals from the perspective of a physician and an athlete.
Performance testing using state-of-the-art equipment like competitive athletes use is now available at the Carillon Wellness Center. The performance test measures a person’s maximal oxygen uptake while at exercise levels. It is the criterion measure of aerobic power in athletes and shows at what heart rate the person’s anaerobic threshold (AT) occurs. Knowing the heart rate at which your AT occurs allows you to systematically train leading to enhanced athletic performance for faster times, improved recovery and avoidance of overtraining.
To register, call (727) 953-9129 or visit StAnthonys.com. The outpatient center is located at 900 Carillon Parkway, off of Ulmerton Road, near Feather Sound in St. Petersburg.
