St. Anthony's Hospital Energy Conservation Techniques for New Emergency Center and Patient Care Tower

St. Anthony’s Hospital Energy Conservation Techniques for New Emergency Center and Patient Care Tower

With its new Emergency Center and Patient Care Tower, St. Anthony’s Hospital is doing its part to minimize energy consumption and reduce the impact on the environment. Several key design features will help lower energy usage while hospital staff will follow practices to conserve natural resources. The hospital has earned the ENERGY STAR designation for three consecutive years.

Many energy-saving elements have been included in the new Emergency Center and Patient Care Tower, including:

  • Using more energy efficient light bulbs

  • Shutting off computers, printers and other non-essential equipment when not in use

  • Utilizing faucets that turn on and off automatically

  • Use of  lighting timers and motion sensors in public restrooms and environmental services utility closets

  • The study and recording of building utility loads to learn the most energy-efficient set point of  the mechanical equipment

  • The  resetting of temperature settings in unoccupied areas of the building without compromising the air flow /air pressure relationships and humidity control

  • Being mindful of peak demand times initiated and scheduling use of certain equipment around those times when possible
